Five footy-free years?

DMK News | Dean | 5:29 am Thursday, Nov 23 2006 |

It’s reported today that the next 5 years of football likes like being a wholly free-to-air deal between channels 7 and 10. As they’re not looking to on-sell up to 4 weekly games to Foxtel, some games may even be shown on community TV station Channel 31.

Great. Not.

Where we live (near Moonee Valley racecourse), our free-to-air signal is “dodgy” at best. We don’t EVER watch channels 7 and 10, as their signals are low-quality for our home. (OK, maybe once every year or so we tolerate an afternoon of one of them for the Melbourne Cup). But we get perfect digital quality reception for channels 9, SBS and the ABC, as they’re re-broadcast through the Foxtel satellite service.

We tried a digital set-top box, and that didn’t help either. Foxtel works as it’s via satellite, otherwise Brunswick West is in the way of our signal reception, as we’re literally in a “valley.”

As for channel 31, if I can’t get 7 and 10, then I’m not even going to try that signal.

As to why channel 10 and 7 don’t re-broadcast their signal through Foxtel, obviously that’s up to them. But for anyone advertising on those two free-to-air channels, I can tell them that I’ve never seen their ads!

(Then again, we wouldn’t watch 1 hour a month of channels 9, SBS and the ABC via Foxtel, so I can’t say I remember ANY free-to-air advertising this year!).

Looks like footy news is coming to our home via the internet or newspapers for the next 5 years!

A 3 million dollar deal

DMK News and Marketing | Dean | 12:53 pm Thursday, Nov 2 2006 |

I was just reading the sales letter for an Early To Rise/Rich Schefren program that is worth studying!

http://www.isecureonline.com/Reports/IWA/EIWAGB04/

I’m not any kind of “affiliate” for this — just on the Rich Schefren email list. It’s a link to the link I got in my email.

250 people at US $2795 per quarter, plus $995 “initiation” fee. That’s US $12,175 gross per signup in the first year — or US $3,043,750, assuming chunks of payments. Or, incentive is to pay upfront $8995 instead.

For that, you get:

* Twice yearly meetings in the USA
* Monthly Industry Updates
* Alliance members website and forum
* Two emergency “life lines” during the year — leave a voicemail and someone’ll get back to you within 48 hours to personally discuss your crisis
* Call in day at least once a month with Rich or other Agora/ETR team members
* Call in day at least once a month with industry experts
* Emails with metrics and marketing results
* Informal alliance meetings all over the world
* Alliances and Joint Ventures within group and between group members.

Interesting on the sales page that, as a marketing influence tool, they state there’s only 250 spots and the list has 32,184 subscribers. To me, I read that as “31,934 people on our list (99.22%) won’t respond to this offer”

Not a bad US $3 million pay-day for possibly only two face-to-face meetings during the year, plus the call-in obligations.

The power of information marketing — NOT swapping time for money!
